After the federal government started a crackdown on meat packing processors, a move that led to the loss of hundreds of small operations across the U.S., a shortage of available meat developed in the nation. The pressure of COVID-19 added to the problem.
Now the same government is attempting to bring about a return of those small meat processing operations. The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently gave $14 million in grants to help an expansion of meat packing in Oklahoma.
KOKH 25 News reported the grant could help start-up and expand of meat processors in the state.
