NTSB head warns of accident risks involving heavy electric vehicles

 

Now the National Transportation Safety Board is concerned about an aspect of electric vehicles—their increased weight and what it means if they are in an accident with lighter vehicles.

Jennifer Homendy, head of the NTSB raised the issue in a speech to the Transportation Research Board, pointing out how an electric GMC Hummer weighs nearly 9,000 pounds. The Hummer’s battery pack alone is 2,900 pounds which is about the entire weight of a typical Honda Civic.
