No change in oil and gas rig numbers in Oklahoma

The number of oil and gas rigs exploring for oil and gas was unchanged in Oklahoma and the U.S. in the past week with a few of the shale oil areas reporting a slight gain.

Oklahoma held steady at 64 rigs, same count as a week earlier. It was still higher than the 51 rigs reported one year earlier. Nationally, the count was unchanged at 771.

The past week’s rig count showed a decline of 4 oil rigs, leaving 609 still actively drilling in the U.S. The drop was offset by a gain of 4 gas rigs which reached a new level of 160.

The nation’s rig numbers are still 161 more than a year ago when there were 610 oil and gas rigs. In the past year, the number of oil rigs grew by 114 and the number of gas-drilling rigs increased by 45.

Texas stayed at 380 in the past week while New Mexico added 3 to reach 105 rigs. North Dakota’s count increased by two to 41 rigs while the number in Louisiana slipped by 3 to 61.

The Red Top Rig Report indicated the rig count in Kansas fell by four to 47. Colorado was unchanged at 20 and Ohio saw no change with its 14 active drilling rigs.

Pennsylvania gained one to reach 22 while West Virginia’s count slipped one to 16. Wyoming was unchanged at 20.

Of the oil plays and formations, the Permian picked up 3 to reach 357 rigs while the Eagle Ford  remained at 72. The Haynesville was unchanged at 69.

The Ardmore Woodford fell one to 5 rigs while the Arkoma Woodford stayed at 2 and the Cana Woodford added one to reach 25 active rigs.

The Barnett continued with 2 rigs while the Granite Wash was unchanged at 10 rigs. The Marcellus saw no change and stayed at 37 while the Mississippian continued with 4 rigs.

The Utica was unchanged at 15 rigs and the Williston continued with 42 rigs.
