Moderate gains were made Thursday by Oklahoma energy stocks and crude oil prices. Crude oil managed a 1% gain for the day after the biggest two-day loss for the start of a year in three decades.
It came after lower fuel inventories were reported.
West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery rose 83 cents to close at $73.67 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for delivery in March gained 85 cents and finished the day at $78.69 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
February natural gas fell 45 cents to $3.72 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks recorded more gains than losses in trading including Unit Corporation with a more than 14% boost for the day. Chesapeake Energy was up 5%.
