Crude oil prices initially made gains Thursday as investors were optimistic that China’s removal of some anti-COVID restrictions might restore global supply chains. Then, they fell. So did Oklahoma energy stocks.
West Texas Intermediate crude for delivery in January dropped 55 cents a barrel or about 1% to close at $71.46 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude slid $1.02 or more than 1% to finish at $76.15 a barrel in trading on ICE Futures Europe.
January natural gas rose 24 cents or more than 4% to $5.96 per 1,000 cubic feet.
More losses were incurred Thursday by Oklahoma energy stocks including a 4% drop for Laredo Petroleum and 3% slips for Gulfport Energy Corp. and Ovintiv Inc.
