Crude oil prices rose by more than $5 a barrel both in the U.S. and overseas in Monday’s trading as investors were spurred by growing worries over gas supply from Russia and a lower dollar. Those worries apparently offset concerns about a possible recession in the U.S. and across the world and the growing COVID lockdowns in China.
It was the first time in a week that crude prices in the U.S. finished above $100 a barrel after a sharp selloff last week.
West Texas Intermediate for August delivery finished up $5.01 or 5.15% at $102.60 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for September delivery gained $5.11 or more than 5% to close at $106.27 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
