U.S. oil prices managed a weak recovery in Wednesday’s trading but still finished a few dollars short of $100 a barrel. The gain was made reports showed America’s oil inventories rose and following news of a more than 9% inflation rate in June—something that will likely spur the Federal Reserve to bump interest rates.
West Texas Intermediate crude for August delivery rose 46 cents and closed the day at $96.30 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for September delivery managed an 8 cent climb to close below $100—at $99.57 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
August natural gas rose 53 cents to $6.69 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Some Oklahoma energy stocks managed 4 and 5% gains for the day.
