Buttigieg says Texas should have a commuter train service

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg speaks during his SXSW 2022 featured session at the Austin Convention Center, March 16, 2022. Prior to his speech, Buttigieg spent the morning touring Austin’s transportation infrastructure and riding the Capital Metro Light Rail with Mayor Steve Adler.

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg came to Texas last week, the land of wide open spaces and pickup trucks, and pushed again for a commuter rail line between Austin and San Antonio.

“There’s no reason that quality, speedy train service should only be something in the Northeast,” Buttigieg said in an interview with The Texas Tribune.
