Baker Hughes rig count steady across U-S and Oklahoma

The weekly count by Baker Hughes of oil and gas rigs in the U.S. and Oklahoma was unchanged this past week, an indication that many energy companies continue their resolve to maintain dividend growth rather than financing additional exploration.

The oil and gas servicing company reported Friday the number of rigs in Oklahoma was unchanged from last week with a count of 49.

Nationally, Baker Hughes reported the count stayed at 663 while in Canada, the count declined by 30 to 176. In the U.S. the number of oil rigs dropped by 3 to 524 while the gas rig count increased by 2 to 137.

In the past year, the U.S. rig count grew by 252 as the number of oil rigs increased 206 and the number of gas rigs grew by 45.

The rig count in Texas in the past week was unchanged at 320 while New Mexico saw a decline of one to 97 and the count in North Dakota slid one to 32.

Colorado remained at 14 rigs while Louisiana added two to reach a total of 58. Ohio was unchanged at 12. Pennsylvania saw a drop of one to 24 while West Virginia stayed at 11 rigs. Wyoming continued with 15.

The Red Top Rig Report showed the Kansas rig count grew by 6 in the past week to 46.

Of the oil plays, the Permian Basin was unchanged with 316 rigs while the Williston dropped one to 33.

The Ardmore Woodford remained at one rig. The Arkoma Woodford stayed at two while the Cana Woodford continued with 28 rigs.

The D-J Basin was unchanged with 14 rigs. The Eagle Ford saw a decline of one to 55. The Granite Wash stayed at three while the Mississippi was unchanged with only one rig.

The Haynesville added one rig to reach 66. The Marcellus stayed at 36 and the Utica was unchanged with 12 rigs.
