Rig numbers grow in Oklahoma and across the US

Oklahoma’s rig activity grew even more in the past week according to the latest service report from Baker Hughes which showed the state’s rig count increased by two to 43. A year ago, there were only 14 drilling rigs active in the state.

The latest Baker Hughes rig count showed a nationwide increase of 10 to 543. The most recent report indicated an addition of 12 oil rigs to 445 while the number of gas-drilling rigs declined by one to 98.

The U.S. count has increased 262 from the 282 reported a year ago. In the past 12 months, the increased included 240 oil rigs and 24 gas rigs.

Texas remains strongest with an increase of 3 in the past week to 250 total. Colorado was unchanged at 11 and New Mexico’s numbers slipped one to 85 rigs. North Dakota’s count stayed at 22 rigs while Wyoming stayed at 18 and Louisiana saw an increase of 2 to 47.

The Red Top Rig Report in Kansas, published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service stated the count increased by one to 38 rigs.

West Virginia added one to reach 11 rigs and Pennsylvania was unchanged at 17 rigs. Ohio’s numbers dropped by one to 10 rigs.

The Permian Basin numbers grew by one to 267 rigs in both West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. The Ardmore Woodford remained at 2 rigs. So did the Arkoma Woodford. The D-J Basin stayed at 12 while the Eagle Ford of South Texas added 2 to reach 40 rigs.

Oklahoma’s Granite Wash was unchanged at 3 rigs while the Haynesville numbers slipped by one to 46. The Marcellus stayed at 27 rigs. The Mississippian count stayed at one rig while the Utica numbers fell by one to 1 rigs. The Williston continued with 23 rigs according to the Baker Hughes report.
