Increased rig numbers as oil pushes closer to $80

Rig count dips slightly: North Dakota rises, Oklahoma falls

 

With oil prices pushing more than $79 a barrel in the U.S., the nation’s oil and gas rig count increased by 5 in the past week to reach 533 total. Oklahoma numbers were up by one to 41 working rigs according to this week’s Baker Hughes Co. rig report.

One year ago, Oklahoma had only 12 working oil and gas rigs.

The national count is an increase of oil rigs by 5 to reach 433 while the number of gas rigs was unchanged at 99. This week’s rig count across the country includes 264 more oil rigs from a year ago when there were 269. It also shows the number of gas rigs from last year at this time is 26 more.

Texas remains highest for rig activity with an increase of 4 in the past week to a total of 247. New Mexico was unchanged at 86 and North Dakota stayed at 22 rigs.

Colorado saw no change with 11 working rigs while Louisiana’s numbers slipped by one to 45 rigs. In Kansas, the number of rigs dropped by two to 37 according to the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service.

The number of rigs in Ohio decreased by one to 11 while Pennsylvania’s numbers dropped one to 17. West Virginia’s rig count grew by two to reach 10 while Wyoming stayed at 18 working rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford in Oklahoma was unchanged at two rigs. So was the Arkoma Woodford.

The D-J Basin stayed at 123 rigs. The Granite Wash was unchanged at 3 working rigs. The Haynesville saw no change in the 47 rigs. The Marcellus count increased by one to 27.

The Mississippian stayed at one rig. The Permian Basin saw an increase of 3 to 266 rigs. The Utica rig count fell by one to eleven rigs while the Williston was unchanged at 23.
