Devon donates to Tulsa Dream Center

Children in North Tulsa now have access to high-tech tools to explore science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) at the Tulsa Dream Center (TDC), a faith-based community center.

Students will enjoy tinkering with robots, 3D printers, coding tools and more thanks to a gift from Devon Energy in partnership with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation.

The state-of-the-art STEM center enhances after-school offerings by allowing children to develop their critical thinking skills, expand their horizons and be exposed to the wonders of technological learning.

“The Dream Center serves an important role in lifting up North Tulsa,” said Devon President and CEO Rick Muncrief. “All of us at Devon are proud to partner with the TDC and build a STEM center which will touch so many lives and be a positive influence in an underserved part of the Tulsa community.”

Devon and the Ripken Foundation recently installed STEM centers across Tulsa elementary schools, but this gift allows students to have fun while building upon what they learned during the school day.

The Ripken Foundation provided training so TDC volunteers can guide young people as they explore the tools in the STEM center and discover their potential.

“The Tulsa Dream Center believes education is the key to unlocking potential, and this STEM center is going help empower our kids to try and learn new things. When kids first go into the new room, they just think it’s fun and want to try every item. Then they find something they are really interested in, and they want to know everything about it. It’s exciting to see them choose their own path, apply themselves and discover their full potential,” said Tim Newton, Tulsa Dream Center’s executive director. “Devon’s gift is going to change lives for the better and have a positive impact for generations.”

Devon also contributed to TDC’s Ripple Effect Campaign, which will add an indoor pool and splash pad at TDC. The aquatic center will provide an opportunity to learn water safety, as well as physical fitness education.

As a faith-based community center, the Tulsa Dream Center (TDC) works through strategic community partnerships to offer programs designed to break the cycle of poverty. TDC is a resource of support, encouragement, and empowerment for citizens in North Tulsa. TDC addresses critical needs, fights generational poverty and unites the city.
