Rig activity increased in Oklahoma and US

 

The weekly Baker Hughes Co. rig report released Friday showed an increase in drilling activity in Oklahoma and across the rest of the country despite concerns by investors about what OPEC + will do.

Oklahoma’s count grew by 2 in the past week to reach 29 active rigs, far more than the 10 rigs reported one year ago.

Nationally, the count increased by 5 to 484 including the addition of 2 more oil rigs to reach a total of 380 while the number of gas drilling rigs increased 3 to 104. The U-S count is 231 higher than the 253 active rigs reported last year at this time. The current count includes 200 more oil rigs and 33 more gas rigs.

Texas saw a decline of 2 rigs to 222 in the past week. New Mexico was unchanged at 74. Colorado continued with 12 rigs. The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita indicated the Kansas count declined by one to 29 rigs.

Louisiana added one to reach 54 rigs while North Dakota was unchanged at 18. Ohio stayed at 10 rigs while Pennsylvania continued with 18. The count in West Virginia was 18, unchanged from last week. Wyoming added 3 to reach a total of 13 working rigs.

Oklahoma’s Ardmore and Arkoma Woodfords each had one working rig, unchanged from a week ago. The Permian Basin added one to reach 238 rigs. The D-J Basin stayed at 11 and the Eagle Ford continued with 32 rigs. Oklahoma’s Granite Wash saw its count decline by one, leaving one active rig, based on the Baker Hughes numbers.

The Haynesville was unchanged at 49. The Marcellus stayed at 28. The Utica continued with 10 rigs and the Williston saw the same number of rigs this week at 18.
