Baker Hughes Reports Slight Increase in US Rig Count

The U.S. oil and gas rig numbers increased by 5 in the past week to reach 365 according to the latest report from Baker Hughes Co. and Enverus. Oklahoma’s count remained unchanged at 28 rigs, still ahead of the 10 rigs reported one year ago.

Nationally, the increased count included six more oil rigs to reach 365 while the number of gas rigs dropped by one to reach 96. The current rig count is still 184 more than the 277 reported last year at this time.

Oklahoma’s count of 28 rigs compares to 219 in Texas where the numbers increased by three in the past week. The 219 compares to 114 rigs reported one year earlier.

The Red Top Rig report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita, Kansas showed the Kansas rig count up by two to 23.

New Mexico saw an increase of two to 75 rigs, still above the 56 reported a year ago. Wyoming gained three to reach 7 rigs.

North Dakota was unchanged at 16 rigs. Ohio lost two rigs for a new active total of 8 rigs. Pennsylvania fell down by one and now has 16 rigs in operation. West Virginia gained a rig for a total of 12 while Alaska lost a rig, down to 3.

The Permian Basin count grew by four to 236. The Haynesville gained one rig, now at 49. The Utica has eight rigs after losing two this week.
