Rice mill to build Arkansas’ largest solar power project

Arkansas regulators have signed off on allowing Producers Rice Mill Inc. and Scenic Hill Solar of North Little rock to build the state’s largest commercial solar power and battery storage system.

The operation will be located at the mill’s site in Stuttgart, a city located southeast of Little Rock.

Arkansas Business reported the approval for the 2-megawatt solar plant and up to 40 megawatts of storage capacity was made by the Arkansas Public Service Commission. The project will be located on a 160-acre site and include 65,000 solar modules.

Once up and operational, it will provide two-thirds of the cooperative rice mill’s power load.

“The Producers solar project is the largest commercial solar and storage project in Arkansas,” Scenic Hill CEO and former Lt. Gov. Bill Halter told Arkansas Business in a text message.

Producers Rice Mill CEO Keith Glover offered thanks to the PSC and explained the project will save more than $100 million in electricity bills over the next 30 years.
