Oil and Gas industry worries about Democrat control in New Mexico

Just as the oil and gas industry is fearful of a complete Democrat takeover of the White House, the U.S. Senate and the House, they point to what Democrat control has done in New Mexico, home to part of the prolific Permian Basin.

Democrats kept their majority in New Mexico’s Senate and House after last week’s elections. Combined with Democrat Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, they control what happens to the state’s energy industry. It has the oil and gas industry and the Republicans worried, fearing that what the Democrats will do will threaten the industry.

The leader of the GOP in the New Mexico House is Rep. Jim Townsend who has vocalized his worries that the Democrats will again push for a hydraulic fracturing moratorium and at the same time, weaken the state’s revenues.
