In his zeal to drive up support for his presidential campaign and green efforts, Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke stirred up some resentment by patriots when he compared the fight against climate change to those who stormed the beaches of Normandy.
His controversial comments came in Iowa where he was on the stump in diners and coffee shops.
“The current president says he doesn’t believe in climate change…how could we, who used to be the indispensable nation, be the only country that has removed itself from any obligation to work with anyone on perhaps the most pressing problem?” asked O’Rourke. “If you think about our leadership, those who proceeded us, right. Those who were on the beaches of Normandy, those who faced an existential threat to Western democracy and our way of life, they showed us the way.”
O’Rouke has no military experience and was critical of President trump’s withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.
