Rig counts dropped in Oklahoma and US in past week

The number of active oil and gas drilling rigs fell by three over the past week in Oklahoma to a level of 142. Figures from Baker Hughes Company also indicated the national count dropped one to 1,075.

The number of oil rigs plunged by 10 to 877 while the number of gas-drilling rigs rose by 9 to hit 198. The US count is still 144 higher than a year ago when there were 931 active oil and gas drilling rigs.

The Independent Oil and Gas Service’s Red Top Rig Report showed a decline of one rig in Kansas to a new level this week of 45 rigs. Colorado remained at 33.

Louisiana slipped by one to 64 while New Mexico’s count rose by 2 to hit 110. North Dakota stayed at 52 and the count in Texas declined two to 529. Wyoming was steady at 30 drilling rigs.

Of the oil and gas areas, the Woodfords in Oklahoma dropped by one to 9 while the Granite Wash stayed at 15. The Mississippian slipped one to 6. The Permian Basin saw a decline of four to 489 while the Williston in North Dakota remained at 56. The D-J Niobrara in Colorado and southern Wyoming fell by one to 28 and the Eagle Ford in South Texas saw a gain of one to 80.
