Texan thanks Oklahoma legislators for raising taxes on oil and gas

You probably couldn’t blame for Oklahoma’s oil and gas groups if they wrote legislators and said, “told you so.”

Witness the Point of View published in Saturday’s edition of The Oklahoman, a piece written by energy consultant Chris Hosek of Austin, Texas.

Headlined “A Texan’s thank you to Oklahoma,” it made the argument that Oklahoma’s increased gross production tax would send more business to Texas.

“I wanted to thank you for passing one of the largest tax increases in your state’s history, which will land almost entirely on the back of the oil and gas industry,” he started.

Hosek went on to explain his thank you to Oklahoma legislators.

“I thought passing a tax increase was an interesting move, considering how that industry is truly the back of your economy. I thank you because it will drive business and capital dollars away from your state down to us in Texas,” he continued. “I can’t think of a better marketing campaign for my own business. As the saying goes, Texas is wide open for business.”
