Public Service Co. of New Mexico is putting out a request for plans to provide power if and when its coal-fired power in the northwestern part of the state were to close after 2022.
It has plans to close two units of its San Juan Generating Station, located between Farmington and Shiprock. The closure is to take place before the end of the year and Public Service Co. indicated it might stop using coal by 2031.
So now the company is looking for a combination of fuel sources to make sure it has a reliable source to provide up to 456 megawatts on its system.
