The Denver Federal Court of Appeals upheld an Oklahoma City Federal Judge’s ruling in favor of Devon Energy which had been sued over an agreement settling compensation for two workers hurt in a 2018 gas-line explosion.

Devon had been involved in a compensation issue with the two injured workers for Line Finders, an excavation company headquartered in Gillette, Wyoming. The two contended the explosion was the result of a Devon employee so the matter went to  settlement negotiations.

In May of 2021, Devon offered a settlement agreement and the Line Finders attorney agreed. But by the time Devon sent an execution version to the attorney, one of the two injured workers demand compensation from Devon. Line Finders later sided with the employee, explaining it had never formally signed the settlement agreement.

An Oklahoma City federal judge upheld the settlement agreement and the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in Denver agreed.
