A two-story building that once housed Halliburton Energy Services operations in Canadian County will soon become the Canadian County Health Department offices.
Canadian County acquired the building located along Highway 66 east of El Reno in a $6 million deal. The county used federal stimulus aid to buy the building from the OKC West Industrial Park LLC which originally bought it after Halliburton closed its operations and sent employees to Duncan, Oklahoma.
The Yukon Progress reported the acquisition of the 32,000-square foot building that sits on 10 acres.
“This is going to be a way to make public health services more accessible to all citizens in Canadian County,” stated Dave Anderson, chairman of the Canadian County Commission.
The building was only four years old and served as Halliburton’s Remote Operations Command Center when the company decided to shut down operations in 2019 and in doing so, laid off more than 800 workers. Many of the employees were based out of the El Reno office but actually worked in Texas, Kansas and Colorado.
At the time, Halliburton Chairman, President and CEO Jeff Miller explained the company was “stacking equipment” and took the action to be on the safe side during the economic downturn.
