The Oklahoma legislature is being asked this year to deal with the growing technology of carbon capture from the production of hydrogen.

Sen. Kim David, a Republican from Porter introduced Senate Bill 1856 which would direct the Secretary of Energy and Environment to create and administer a grant program for firms utilizing sequestration of carbon captured from the production of hydrogen from natural gas.

Under the bill, the grant program would receive appropriations from the legislature and if approved and signed into law, it would become effective Nov. 1, 2022.

Carbon sequestration is not only the capture of atmospheric carbon dioxide but the storage of it. Many believe it is a strong step toward reducing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and reducing global climate change.

Sen. David has served on the Senate Energy and Rules Committee. She also holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Petroleum Geology from Oklahoma State University and spent nearly a decade working in petroleum marketing nationally and internationally.
