Wednesday’s trading produced another increase in crude oil prices as the benchmark U.S. crude settled close to $78 a barrel while overseas, the price was closer to $81. But Oklahoma energy stocks recorded losses for the day.
The increase in prices came after U.S. fuel inventories rose because of a slipping demand as COVID-19 cases spiked around the U.S. and the world.
West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery went up 86 cents and closed at $77.85 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for March delivery increased 80 cents to $80.80 per barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
February natural gas also rose 16 cents to $3.88 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Oklahoma energy stocks went the opposite direction with Laredo Petroleum falling 7%, Mammoth Energy 5% and Cypress Environmental 4%.
Other energy stocks recorded losses for the day as well including Occidental Petroleum which was down 5%.
