Crude oil trading left U.S. prices right at about the $79 a barrel mark on Friday, down slightly from Thursday but still with a 5% gain for the week. It also left Oklahoma energy stocks confused, resulting in a mix of gains and losses.
Analysts blamed supply worries over the deadly unrest in Kazakhstan as well as outages in Libya.
West Texas Intermediate crude for February delivery dropped 56 cents or 0.70% to $78.90 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
Global benchmark Brent crude for March delivery slipped 24 cents or 0.29% and finished the day at $81.75 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
February natural gas rose 11 cents to $3.92 per 1,000 cubic feet.
Friday’s trading proved to be a mix for Oklahoma energy stocks. While Laredo Petroleum fell nearly 4%, Chesapeake Energy gained about 4%. Coterra Energy recorded a 5% gain for the day.
