Oil and gas rig numbers grow in Oklahoma and the U.S.

Growing number of drilling permits approved in Oklahoma – Oklahoma Energy  Today

 

For a second consecutive week, Oklahoma’s oil and gas rig count increased in the past week as did the number across the U.S.

Oklahoma’s count grew by one to 51. A year ago, there were only 18 active oil and gas rigs in the state.

Nationally, numbers increased by 6 to 610. The count included four more oil rigs for a total of 495 across the U.S. and 2 more gas rigs for a total of 115. The nation’s count is up 226 from a year ago when there were only 384 oil and gas rigs in the country. The growth includes 200 more oil rigs and 27 more gas rigs.

Texas still has the highest count with 284, a gain of 4 in the past week. The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita showed the Kansas rig count grew by two to 43.

New Mexico’s count slipped by one to 94 while North Dakota was unchanged at 27 in the past week. Colorado remained at 12 rigs while the number in Louisiana grew by one to 57. Ohio stayed at 11 rigs while Pennsylvania added one for a total of 23 active rigs.

West Virginia remained at 11 rigs and the count in Wyoming was unchanged at 15 rigs.

Wilmoth: Drilling activity slows in Oklahoma

The Permian Basin remains the most active oil and gas play as it gained one rig for a total of 293. The Williston stayed at 27 and the Eagle Ford was unchanged at 50.

The Granite Wash stayed at 4 rigs and the D-J Basin continued with 12. The Ardmore Woodford dropped to no rig activity with the loss of one rig while the Arkoma Woodford was unchanged at 2 and the Cana Woodford stayed at 26 rigs.

The Haynesville count grew by one to 54 rigs while the Marcellus numbers increased by one to 34. The Mississippian stayed at only one rig while the Utica was unchanged at 11.
