EV growth to be a highway tax challenge for Kansas

Officials are expecting to see more electric vehicles in Kansas in the years to come, but this will have a major impact on how the state funds roads. Lawmakers are starting to look at potential long-term solutions.

The growth of electric vehicles has posed a challenge in Kansas. How will the state find the money to maintain and repair its roads and highways since money won’t be spent at the gas pumps where highway taxes are paid and collected?

It’s the same challenge in Oklahoma and while the two states have yet to see a dramatic increase in the number of EV users, it is likely to be a problem in the future.
