A research scientist at the University of Michigan contends the U.S. biofuel mandate certainly helps American farmers but does little for energy security and actually harms the environment.

It’s the contention of John DeCisso, Research Professor Emeritus who argues the Renewable Fuel Standard, one that came into focus in an unsuccessful lawsuit involving an Oklahoma refinery that challenged it in federal court, it raised profits for corn growers but failed to fulfill other promises.

Writing in The Conversation, DeCisso stated, “Indeed, studies by some scientists, including me, find that biofuel use has increased rather than decreased CO2 emissions to date.”
