Oklahoma regulators to meet Tuesday

Study recommends changes for Corporation Commission | The Journal Record

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission plans two regular meetings on Tuesday, one in the morning to handle a PSO rate hike request and another in the afternoon to consider a complaint against OG&E.

The 9:30 a.m. meeting will focus on PSO’s request to raise rates in which the utility contends it suffered from the COVID-19 public health crisis. The company says it experienced the biggest decline on record with a 4.9% drop in its gross regional product in 2020.

In testimony before the commission, PSO said measures implemented to address the COVID-19 pandemic not only created a significant drop in overall load for the company, but it also created a notable shift in the electricity sales mix.

In the morning meeting, the commission might also vote on a Petroleum Storage Tank Division Staff recommendation to issue a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. There will also be an update from the OCC Oil and Gas Conservation Division on action related to federal legislation signed into law in November which includes funds for states to plug and remediate orphan oil and gas wells.

Presentations will also be made by electric utilities in response to November Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, North American Electric Reliability Corporation and Regional Entity Staff’s joint report on the February 2021 Cold Weather Outages in Texas and the South Central U.S.

Presentations will be made by OG&E, PSO and Liberty Utilities.

The 1:30 regulation meeting will focus on Northwestern Electric Cooperative Inc.’s motion to release an appeal bond in Cause No. EN 201800136, a complaint against Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company for enforcement of the Retail Electric Supplier Certified Territory Act.
