Crude oil prices had something of a weak Monday in trading as US benchmark prices rose slightly while European prices dropped.
Analysts called it a finish on a mixed note as investors might be worried about the Biden administration’s use of the release of crude from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve as the means to lower soaring gasoline prices.
West Texas Intermediate crude for December delivery rose 9 cents or 0.1% to finish Monday’s trading at $80.88 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices had dropped earlier in the trading session down to $79.30 a barrel, the lowest intraday level since Nov. 5.
Global benchmark Brent crude for January delivery dropped 12 cents or nearly 0.2% to $82.05 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe.
Both WTI and Brent dropped last week for a third consecutive week.
Oklahoma energy stocks had the same kind of weak day but ONEGAS saw a more than 3% gain for the day. Cypress Environmental had a loss of nearly the same amount—3%.
