First freeze of the season this weekend in Oklahoma?

Yes, there really could be frost on the pumpkins sometime this week in Oklahoma.

At least that’s the prediction and warning from Gary McManus, the State Climatologist with the Oklahoma Mesonet and the Oklahoma Climatological Survey.

In his Tuesday morning newsletter, McManus wrote, “Oh by the way, the state will probably see its first freeze sometime this week. Maybe a frost in the next 2 or 3 days in the Panhandle, but Saturday morning, sometime around 4:23am…winter arrives.”

He indicated the possible freeze might be a “tad early” for the western Panhandle but close to the average first freeze date.
