The number of drilling rigs in Oklahoma increased in the past week as the U.S. count grew by 9 to reach 512 oil and gas rigs reported Baker Hughes Co.
Oklahoma’s count increased to 35 rigs while nationally, the increased count included 10 more oil rigs bringing the total to 411 while the number of gas rigs declined by one to 100. Over the past year, the number of rigs increased by 257 compared to 255 reported a year ago. The increase included 232 oil rigs and 27 gas rigs.
Oklahoma’s count of 35 compared to Texas where the number increased by 4 in the past week to reach a total of 239 rigs. Colorado remained at 11 rigs while Louisiana continued with 39.
New Mexico saw an increase of 2 rigs to 84 while North Dakota stayed at 22, Ohio continued with 12 and Wyoming was unchanged at 18.
The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita showed the Kansas rig count increased by 3 in the past week to hit 37.
Pennsylvania’s count increased by one to 18 while West Virginia’s total fell by one to 8 working rigs.
The numbers were also reflected in the various drilling plays. The Ardmore Woodford stayed at two rigs while the Arkoma Woodford continued with one rig.
The D-J Basin was unchanged at 12 rigs while the Granite Wash remained at 4 rigs. The Haynesville numbers slipped by one to 47 rigs. The Marcellus count increased by one to 27. The Mississippian was unchanged with one rig.
The Permian Basin numbers increased by 5 to 259 oil and gas rigs. The Utica stayed at 12 rigs and the Williston was unchanged at 23 rigs.
