Report claims conflicts of interest among Texas oil and gas regulators

Just as conflict of interest allegations were raised in the form of a State Supreme Court lawsuit against Oklahoma Corporation Commissioner Todd Hiett, similar claims are being raised against Texas oil and gas regulators.

And it all may be perfectly legal according to a report written by money-in-politics watchdog group Texans for Public Justice and Commission Shift, a group urging for reform of the Railroad Commission of Texas reported KUT News.

Conflict of Interest Definition

In Oklahoma, the conflict of interest allegation question was not settled by the high court. Instead, the justices threw out the lawsuit by former State Rep. Mike Reynolds, saying he did not have the legal standing to file the suit. Justices never delved into the constitutional question raised by Reynolds over Hiett’s membership on the board of directors of SpiritBank, a firm that at times deals with oil and gas issues.
