A boost in the value of the U.S. dollar made oil more expensive for holders of other currencies resulting in a 2% drop in oil prices in Monday’s trading while Oklahoma energy stocks suffered with big losses.
U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude fell 2.3% or $1.68 to end the day at $70.29 after slipping earlier in the day to $69.86.
Global benchmark Brent crude finished down $1.42 or 1.9% to end the day at $73.92 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe. Brent had fallen to a session low of $73.52.
The drop in oil prices sending Oklahoma energy stocks plummeting with a more than 9% loss recorded for the day by Mammoth Energy, a 7% for PHX Minerals Inc. and a 6% fall by SandRidge Energy.
