Legislators in New Mexico have growing concerns about the impact on the state’s oil and gas industry of a proposed State Environment Department rule to reduce ozone pollution.

An economic analysis says the industry would take a major hit and so would the New Mexico economy if the rule were enacted. It indicated oil and gas operators would be forced to pay $3.2 billion in the first year and $3.8 billion over five years in order to comply with the rule reported the Santa Fe New Mexican.
