Test Drives Offered During OGE’s Recent EV Ride & Drive Event

More than 125 people attended an EV Ride & Drive event hosted by OGE on Saturday, August 7 at the OSU-OKC Precision Driving Training Facility, according to a published report in The Journal Record. The event offered a free test-drive experience in a Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4 or Volvo XC40 Recharge on the closed course. The event also included a static EV automobile show that featured a Chevrolet Bolt, Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model 3.

“One of the core foundations and beliefs of our organization is our commitment to environmental stewardship, and so this gives us an opportunity to demonstrate and further that commitment by bringing out our friends and neighbors in the community so that they can learn more about the benefits of EVs,” said Megan White, OGE Energy Corp.’s communication specialist.

The event is scheduled annually for five years but was canceled last year due to the pandemic.

OGE plans to replace its fleet of traditional light-duty vehicles with electric vehicles by 2030. This strategic goal will result in the reduction of carbon emissions by 60%. The current fleet has 96 EVs.

“The state’s energy sector is a critical part of our economy and OGE prioritizes reliable, diverse fuel sources including wind, solar, coal and natural gas,” said White. “OGE is proud to be a resource to customers who are interested in learning about the savings and environmental benefits of electric vehicles.”
