Rep. Mullin: America First, Not America Last

By Congressman Markwayne Mullin

Americans are paying more for just about everything thanks to President Biden’s out-of-control spending and disastrous policies. Look no further than what it costs to fill up your gas tank.

The national average for a gallon of gasoline is $3.18. That’s over a dollar higher than this time last year. While a dollar may not sound like a lot, it adds up fast. On average, if you fill up your car’s 15-gallon tank every week, you’ll be spending around $780 more on gasoline than you would have last year. Even if you fill up every other week, that’s still around $390 more.

In Oklahoma, we can’t get anywhere without driving so gasoline is a necessity for nearly every household. Families shouldn’t have to spend more of their hard-earned paychecks just to fill up their tanks.

President Biden has finally realized the problem he created. But rather than reversing his attacks on American energy production, he called on the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC+), including Russia, to ramp up oil production. We have the resources right here at home to meet our energy needs and bring the prices down. We should be putting Americans back to work instead of relying on our adversaries for our energy.

From day one of his presidency, it’s clear that President Biden has not put the interests of the American people ahead of the interests of his party. This is just the latest example. We must always put America first, not America last.
