For a third consecutive day this week, crude oil prices fell on Wednesday’s trading as analysts blamed the drop on growing worries about the spread of the coronavirus Delta variant. Energy stocks in Oklahoma did the same with some dropping as much as nearly 11%.
West Texas Intermediate crude suffered a 3.4% drop as prices fell $2.41 to finish the day at $68.15 a barrel, slipping under the $70 mark.
Brent futures, considered the global benchmark fell $2.03 or 2.8% and settled at $70.38 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe. Both benchmarks haven’t had that low of a close since July 20.
The drop in oil prices was echoed by Oklahoma energy stocks as many had significant losses including a drop of nearly 11% by Laredo Petroleum.
