OKC’s Devon Energy 2nd largest holder of permits to drill in New Mexico

An article by a California-based investigative online journalism group recently focused on the nearly 10,000 permits to drill applications approved or pending in the state of New Mexico.

The story by Capital and Main pointed out that two energy firms, Oklahoma City-based Devon Energy and Houston’s EOG Resources are the two largest holders of the permits.

EOG was cited as New Mexico’s largest oil and gas producer with nearly 2,700 of the permits while Devon Energy was ranked second with about 1,100 approved or pending permits.

The focus of the story was the contention that the climate in New Mexico will be at risk for years to come because of the approved future drilling.
