After fining a Denver oil and gas company nearly $1.8 million for a series of environmental and regulatory violations, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission will meet next month to decide whether to allow the firm to continue operations in the state.

The hearing set for Sept. 20-21 will concern K.P. Kauffman Co. which was fined for engaging in a pattern of violations. Regulators will decide whether to prohibit the firm from receiving any new permits.

The Denver Post reported that the COGCC staff had urged commissioners to fine the firm $3.7 million. But some of the alleged violations were dismissed by the COGCC.

K.P. Kauffman was fined for violating rules on reporting spills and the status of flowlines. The firm also missed deadlines on filing cleanup plans.
