Rig numbers slipped in past week but were steady in Oklahoma

Oklahoma’s rig activity was unchanged in the past week while the number of  rigs nationwide slipped according to the weekly count released on Friday by Baker Hughes Co.

Oklahoma’s numbers were unchanged at 30 while nationally, the count fell by 3 to 488 oil and gas rigs. The number of active oil rigs last week dropped by 2 to 385 while the gas well count fell by one to 103.

The US rig numbers are still up 237 from the 251 reported a year ago. In the past year, the oil rig activity improved by 205 while the gas rig numbers increased by 34.

Oklahoma’s count of 30 compared to 230 in Texas where there was an increase of 2 rigs. The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita put the Kansas count up 2 to 32.

Colorado’s count fell one to 11 while Louisiana lost 4 and fell to 48 active rigs. New Mexico slipped by one to 74 and North Dakota’s count grew by one to 19. Ohio saw a gain of one to 11 rigs while Pennsylvania increased its activity by one to 19 rigs.

West Virginia was unchanged at 10 rigs and Wyoming stayed at 13 rigs.

Oklahoma’s Ardmore Woodford remained at 2 active rigs and the Arkoma Woodford stayed at one rig. The D-J Basin in Colorado was unchanged at 11 rigs while the Eagle Ford in South Texas stayed at 32 rigs.

The Granite Wash in Oklahoma added a rig to reach 3. The Haynesville count slipped by one to 47 rigs. The Marcellus added a rig to reach 29.

The Permian Basin saw an increase of one to 243 rigs. The Utica count grew by one to 11 and the Williston added one rig to reach 19.
