Two Killed, Three Injured in Central TX Pipeline Explosion

Two men were killed and three were injured in a gas line explosion that occurred in an unincorporated area of Collin County, Texas north of Farmersville late Monday afternoon. Multiple fire departments, EMS and other local law enforcement officials quickly responded to the blast that happened near the intersection of FM 2756 and Highway 78.

The men were employees of Bobcat Contracting and Fesco Petroleum Engineering, both subcontractors for Atmos Energy, who were performing pipeline maintenance work when the accident occurred.

While the explosion appears to be an accident, Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner has asked the FBI to help determine the cause of the explosion. The National Transportation Safety Board is also involved in the investigation. It’s unclear at this time what caused the accident.

Atmos Energy released the following statement Monday afternoon:

“Our prayers are with those who were affected by the events in Farmersville, Texas today.  Out of respect for their privacy, we are not releasing any names or additional details at this stage. Our highly trained technicians continue to work with the fire departments and emergency first responders to monitor the situation and make sure the area is safe.  Our number one priority continues to be the safety of the public, our employees, our contractors, and our natural gas distribution system.”
