Rig counts grow in Oklahoma and US

Rig count soars in Oklahoma, nationwide

 

The slow recovery of the nation’s oil and gas industry resulted in recent growth in Oklahoma’s oil and gas exploration as well as the nation.

Baker Hughes Co. reported Oklahoma’s count increased by two to reach 28 rigs active in the state’s oil plays. A year ago, there were only 12 active rigs.

Nationally, the U.S. count grew by 2 to 457 including an addition of 3 more oil rigs to reach 359 and a decline of one gas rig to 98.

The latest figures show the U.S. count is 156 higher than the 301 reported last year at this time, including an addition of 137 oil rigs and 2 gas rigs.

Texas reported an increase of 4 rigs in the past week to 218 compared to 127 a year ago. Colorado saw a decline of one to 9 rigs while Louisiana was unchanged at 53.

New Mexico saw a drop of one to 71 rigs while North Dakota was unchanged at 16 and Ohio remained at 10 rigs. Pennsylvania’s count slipped by two to 17 while West Virginia remained unchanged at 11 and Wyoming stayed at four rigs.

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita reported the number of rigs in Kansas dropped by 3 to 22.

Oklahoma’s Arkoma and Ardmore Woodfords each were unchanged at one rig each. The Granite Wash stayed at 3 rigs.

The D-J Basin slipped by one to 6 rigs. The Permian Basin increased by 2 to 233. The Eagle Ford of South Texas grew by one to 33 rigs. The Haynesville was unchanged at 47 while the Marcellus count declined by 2 to 28.

The Utica was unchanged at 10 and the Williston stayed at 16.
