Evergy doubled its 1Q earnings

Evergy, the utility that serves 1.6 million customers in Kansas and Missouri more than doubled its earnings in the first quarter of 2021 compared to a year earlier.

The company said its profits were due to the exorbitant energy prices during the February winter storm that gripped the Midwest and forced utility to cut power to thousands of its customers.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Evergy reported its earnings between Jan. 1 and March 31 were $192 million. A year earlier, the firm had $69 million in earnings according to a report by the Kansas Reflector.
