Tulsa chosen as national test site for Rivian delivery vans

Tulsa will be a test site for California-based electric vehicle maker Rivian’s delivery vans for Amazon.

The Orange County Business Journal reported the announcement this week saying it was part of Rivian’s continued expansion across the nation with its vehicles.

Amazon has a major warehouse distribution in Tulsa as well as in Oklahoma City. The company is testing the Rivian vans for deliveries in the greater Tulsa area. Tulsa is also the third market in which Rivian has deployed its vans for testing. Los Angeles and San Francisco are the two others.

Eventually Amazon plans to use the Rivian vans in 16 locations across the US this year and said it hopes to have 10,000 of the vehicles running by early 2022.

Amazon is one of several Rivian investors that also includes Ford Motor Co., Cox Automotive, Fidelity Management and Research Company, Soros Fund Management LLC and BlackRock funds. The automaker has raised more than $5 billion to date according to the Business Journal.
