Renewables protest proposed new laws in Texas

Texas lawmakers apparently have a fight on their hands over proposed new laws to make wind and solar farms pay for services to ensure the flow of power on the grid stays smooth and steady.

Three big power companies, the biggest in the country wrote lawmakers charging that the proposed new laws would create unfair burdens on the renewable energy industry and also inhibit investment in the state.

Bloomberg reported NextEra Energy Inc., a firm with major wind farm operations in Oklahoma, Duke Energy Corp. and Southern Company sent a letter to the legislature and Gov. Greg Abbott. They stated their “serious concerns” about the pending bills.
