Produced water injection plan draws challenges in Wyoming

A state-approved plan to injection “produced” water into a Wyoming aquifer has been challenged by conservation groups who claim the project fails to meet Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.

A report by WyoFile indicated the challenge was made by the Powder River Basin Resource Council, Wyoming Outdoor Council and Natural Resources Defense Council.

They argue Wyoming relied on flawed economic analyses by Aethon Energy, the firm seeking the permit to inject oilfield waste from the Moneta Divide oil and gas field.
