Growth seen in Oklahoma oil and gas rig numbers

Oklahoma has slowly made gains in the number of oil and gas rigs in the field as the latest Baker Hughes report shows the state with 21 operational rigs.

The number is an increase of one over a week earlier and compares to 24 a year ago.

Nationally, the rig count grew by 7 to 439 including an increase of 7 oil rigs to 344 and one gas rig to 94. Still, the US count is down 90 from a year ago when there were 529 oil and gas rigs. The current number includes 94 fewer oil rigs and 5 more gas rigs than last year at this time reported Baker Hughes.

Texas saw its rig count improve by five to 214. Colorado remained at 10 rigs while the count in Louisiana increased one to 47.

New Mexico’s numbers remained at 70 rigs while the count in North Dakota increased one to 15 working rigs. Ohio stayed at 10 rigs while West Virginia was unchanged at 11 rigs.

Wyoming was unchanged at four rigs and Kansas saw a growth of one rig to 20. The Kansas numbers were based on a report by the Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Service in Wichita.

Oklahoma’s Woodford plays still have no rig activity, at least based on the Baker Hughes report. However, the Granite Wash activity grew by two to reach 3 rigs. The D-J Basin in Colorado was unchanged at 7 rigs.

The Permian Basin numbers increased by 3 to 227 rigs. The Haynesville was unchanged at 45. The Marcellus count slipped one to 29 rigs. The Utica stayed at 10 rigs and the Williston numbers increased one to 15 working rigs.
