Utilities form coalition to boost EV charging network

A coalition of six major utilities, including PSO’s parent company American Electric Power announced plans this week to add electric vehicle fast chargers connecting major highways across the country.

AEP was joined by Entergy Corp., Dominion Energy, Duke Energy, Southern Co. and Tennessee Valley Authority. All plan to provide electric car charging stations in their service territories which cover the Atlantic Coast, the Midwest, South and to the Gulf and Central Plains states.

AEP pointed out in its website announcement that residential customers of Public Service Company of Oklahoma and Southwestern Electric Power Company in Louisiana and Texas are eligible for energy efficiency rebates on qualified EV chargers.

Reuters reported the coalition’s formation came as President Biden campaigns to make electric vehicles a top priority.
