US senators press FERC to act on expanded North Bakken gas pipeline

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is urged by U.S. Senators from North Dakota to give quick approval to a 60-mile pipeline that they contend will cut methane emissions in the state.

Their request focuses on WBI Energy Transmission’s North Bakken Expansion project. If approved, the project would provide incremental firm capacity from six gas processing plants to a proposed interconnect with North Border Pipeline Company reported S&P Global.

The expanded pipeline could affect Oklahoma firms that have extensive operations in the Bakken.

“Providing new takeaway capacity allows domestic producers in the Bakken to increase their natural gas capture rate and reduce flaring,” said Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer, along with Representative Kelly Armstrong, all Republicans from North Dakota, in a March 26 letter.
